The Sugar Baby Compact Recumbent Bike

The Sugar Baby is a compact long-wheelbase recumbent bike for medium and small-size individuals. It is nimble, almost effortless to steer and easy to maneuver. It has a very low step-over for ease of mounting. It is easy to ride and is quickly and highly adjustable (without tools) to correctly fit almost everybody from 4'6″ to 5'10″. This bike has a 55″ wheelbase and an overall length of 72″. The use of a 20″ rear wheel and a 16″ front wheel allows us to preserve long-wheelbase ergonomics and safety advantages in a recumbent that is only about 8″ longer than a mountain bike. The Sugar Baby is designed to be simple and straightforward. It accepts the simple essentials of mirror, fenders, kickstand (common makes) and rear rack (almost any kind) for carrying panniers or wire baskets. It will accept a front fairing (good for cold-weather riding). Small-diameter wheels do not roll across rough terrain as well as do large diameter wheels, but deep-profile tires improve the ride in occasional rough stuff. In addition; the long wheelbase creates a rocker-arm effect that smoothes the ride, the monotube frame adds a little bump-absorbing flex, the seat pad insulates the rider from vibration and shock, and the wide seat distributes any remaining forces across the rider's glutes. This is a delightfully comfortable bike.
